Tomorrow I will begin the cycling part of my journey. It was a lucky thing that I decided to visit some of the galleries and musea on the other side of the river.
Derailleur trouble
It turns out the front derailleur was not functioning too well and it took me around 30 minutes to sort it out. I ended up having to take it off the frame entirely and reset it’s position.
It must have taken a knock somewhere, either in the hotel or in transit, meaning that it wouldn’t reach the higher gears 17 – 24.
Better to discover it now. Get it out of the way.
Cycling around Karakoy
After that I cycled down to Karakoy which is on the other side of the river.
I was going to get off and go into the naval museum when I realised I’d left the keys to my bike lock at the hotel ☹️
Had to retrace my steps, back through Karakoy, through the harbour area, up the hill, through the bazaar, and back home. Get my keys, jump on my bike and cycle all the way back again!
For those not that familiar with Istanbul, it’s not a long journey. The biggest problem is the hill on which the city is perched, it’s fairly steep! Also cycling through the bazaar. Strictly, you’re not allowed to do this, but motorcycles do it, and I’m much slower and don’t cause as much damage when I crash into things, (which didn’t happen, honest).
Dolmabahçe Palace
But I got back to where I wanted to go, and had a look at the national picture museum.
It’s situated in the Dolmabahçe Palace, which is on the banks of the Bosporus.
That’s where the pictures here were taken.
Until tomorrow, Ciao.
