On salad.

Besides that, I’m trying to move during the prescribed time-frames for continuous cruisers.

That’s meant two weeks only, then on to the next one.

This year, I have to travel further, right the way down 22 miles from where I started in March.

Pig turn

It’s usually around this area that I think about turning around and heading back up. Not so this time, I’m thinking more about what lies beyond my terminal stop, Aynho Wharf, the next stop down.

Summer is escalating nicely and the weather here at the Pig Place is something that you can enjoy on the wide towpath outside your own boat, (if you so desire).

Plants

I’ve planted some coriander and some basil. I bought a chilli plant for £2.

The basil and coriander failed last year when I tried them. This year I thought I’d have a proper go, seeing as I’d bought all the materials. Apart from knocking the basil over when I came through the locks, they seem to be coming on a storm!

The wild plants also seem to be doing well.

The thunder and rain no doubt have helped.

Bike cruising

In order to be a bit more active in the cardio exercise department, I’ve been using the weekends to enjoy time on my bike.

On my days off, time and weather permitting, I’ve used on of the days, Sunday or Monday to make a visit to a local stately home or site of interest.

Last time it was the Rollright Stones, this fortnight it is Stowe Hall and Broughton Castle that have been on my itinerary list.

Broughton Castle was quite pretty and interesting. Probably better with a tour, which you can book online.

Stowe House is more of a whole day out. I went round on my bike which made it much quicker, but I picked up less about the history of the place. The gardens were HUGE.

Here’s some pictures:

  1. Love the pictures. It’s great you’re getting out on the bike. It’s a good way to enjoy the countryside. Bet you’re heart is loving it. Hope the good weather lasts all through the summer.

  2. I remember visiting Rollrigjt Stones years ago. It is one of those stone circles that legend says you can never count how many there are…11, 12, or even 13? Did you have a go?
