Khenifra to Azrou

Today felt like a much better day. Not finishing off at night and not knowing where you’re staying is not the greatest. Last night whenI finished, I could hardly walk because I was so exhausted. Tonight was more relaxed, and I managed to wander around to town do a few things that I wanted.

To start the day

From 9.30 am until roughly 12 was entirely uphill. I was climbing from the off. For the last half hour, I refused to do any more, and walked, just to save energy and give my body a bit of a rest.

It was around every corner is another hill. Most of them being upwards.

Still, it was quite pretty and the weren’t many cars on the road. Could hear the woodpecker in the forest, and at one point, a tortoise walked out into the road in front of me!

Also some monkeys, which the cars in front of me stopped to feed.

Sources Oum Rabia

Source Oum Rabia

Was where I was heading. Up in the hills, it’s where the river Oum Rabia emerges from and underground source. There is a grotto and a cascade. There are many stalls set up along the river. Some are like holiday stalls where people bring their families to sit by the river. Some are trading stalls selling all sorts.

I didn’t buy much, but I did have a rest.

After lunch, can you guess what it was? Yes that’s right, more hills!

These were more steep than before but there was a slight wind behind me and the sun was starting to get blocked out by the trees on the side of the hills.

The sun was even obscured by cloud at one point! This doesn’t happen very often!

I carried on out onto the surreal Altiplano.

Destination Azrou

My host at Ouzoud Falls had recommended this as a place to visit. On arrival, unlike the night before, I had my accommodation booked. All I had to do was bowl up and check in £19 per night.

Riad Azrou

It’s the name of the place. It’s located right in the centre.

I made a short video, just to compare it with the previous night.

It’s an authentic Moroccan town house, no doubt built for someone rich and influential. Very cool inside and decorated in a traditional style with the ceramic tiling on the walls and floor.

Had a delicious meal.

Orange and banana with cinnamon. Delicious!

Today i’ll be leaving for Fes, where I intend to spend 2 nights.

  1. That’s brilliant. Love the wildlife. Your room looked lovely and comfortable. The bathroom was nice and to see nicely folded towels always makes a good impression. So glad it was a good choice. Walking beside the bike can be lovely and resful so that was wise especially to give the knee a chance. 30 degrees is hot and demanding. That desert looked delicious. Hope you enjoy Fez. x
