Cycling – Bucharest → Targoviste

Most of it through arable, flat farmland. At least to start with.

The weather here is hot. 30deg plus. Sunshine all day.

Did just over 70 miles.

By the end of the day, things had got more hilly and the open fields had transformed into dense woodlands.

I guess this is where the bears live. I’d been warned about the dogs, not so much the bears. When I went in the bike shop on the first day. Guy said dogs are much more dangerous but if you stick to the roads, you should be ok.

Brancoveanu’s Palace, Potlogi

Stopped over lunch to have a look at one of the historical features en route. It’s the bastion of an orthodox stalwart who played a major part in Romanian constitution in 17th century.

It’s story is basically that of this monk called Constantine and setting up the Romanian constitution. After the ottomans invaded, the capital moved to Bucharest although it used to be where I am now, Targoviste. The old order were executed. Familiar type of thing.

Got there about 11am. Had planned to have lunch there so had plenty of time to look around. Have a rest, and some food.

Leaving Bucharest

I didn’t really have chance to do any of the tourist things.

I did manage to drink beer and eat. Went to this place called the taproom which was a very short walk.

Also went for some Japanese food, which was also good, if expensive.

Bucharest has a lot to offer the tourist. Maybe when I come back I’ll do some of the things you’re supposed to.

  1. Looks like beautiful country. You’re lucky with the weather though 30° is a bit hot for coffee ycling or much else. Enjoy. X
