Bought it from Auchan last weekend.

Bought a lock and chain for it. Rode it to school for 1 week.

Today, locked it up in front of supermarket in the center of town. In broad daylight.

Came back after about an hour.

It was gone.

After all the mudgards and chains, it cost about 1,400 RMB or about £150.

Rang my contact from the school and informed her. She came down, which was nice, and made out a report with the police. Who offered me an orange.

I declined.

Winter is coming

I’ve had experiences in China before with bikes.

They always get robbed.

I’m going to hang fire on the purchase of a new one.

I still have use of the free ones and one of the locks which I bought, which will have to suffice.

Often well behaved. Sometimes not. Today I was given this gift by one of my pupils called E***y.

She tried to call me a monkey in my last lesson, and said I had ‘monkey’ eyes. I responded by saying monkeys don’t have blue eyes.

I’m not used to being called a monkey by my pupils. And I won’t stand for any disrespect directed towards anyone, pupils or teachers alike.

Even-so, I ignored it as a one off.

Next lesson

At the end of the lesson. E***y came to my desk at the front and presented me with this gift.

I read it with disbelief.

After consideration, I said “this is not funny” and put it in my bag.

Pupils have called me things in the past, but never directly. Usually they shout in class when they can get away with it.

Although she may have thought this was a clever thing to do, writing abusive notes to your teacher is never a wise thing to do.

I can’t imagine she’s going to get away with it…..

So…

Went to see the film Interstellar last night. Took a cycle down to the local cinema.

Spitting Chinese

Girl gave me a free drink. There were a lot of spitting Chinese. One guy was even spitting in the cinema.

They used to do this in Shanghai, except they never used to spit. They would make a noise to get a reaction. Obviously, the Chinese round here are not that evolved, they go the whole hog.

Even people in uniforms were spitting.

I guess that’s what you’ve got to expect coming to a small town in China.

Interstellar

The film itself was good. Michael Caine sends a mission to Jupiter’s rings where there is a wormhole which the astronauts from a failing earth, go in.

When in there, they have to decide which planet to populate. Anyway, the upshot is, HATE is the key to the universe, and if we hate things enough, we will be chosen to populate other planets. Which seems reasonable.

Cost me 40 yuan or £4.
